About the Partner:
Hays County Friends of the Night Sky are all volunteers who care about our community and the quality of life here. We are committed to expanding the knowledge and awareness of good night sky practices. Our membership is composed of a diverse group of people who enjoy learning from one another as well as the knowledgeable experts who work with us. Many members focus on special projects while others spread the word to help friends, family and the community make smarter decisions. And, then there are those who get satisfaction simply by supporting our work through ongoing financial contributions. There is a place for everyone to play an important role.
Those members of Hays County Friends of the Night Sky who are Hays County Master Naturalist volunteer under Project 1108, Light Pollution Education and Outreach.
Services & Areas of Operation:
- Educating the Public about what light pollution is, its negative effects, and how to solve it with a variety of outreach activities.
- Coaching others so that they are able to lead educational outreach about light pollution.
- Designing and Recommending solutions for specific sites to reduce light pollution.
- Recognizing homes, businesses, and organizations with nature, neighbor and night sky friendly outdoor lighting as an educational outreach program by promoting the Be A Star Award and other similar award programs.
Certifications & Affiliations:
- Works closely with Hays County Master Naturalist and DarkSky Texas.
- Recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
