Why Support DarkSky Texas?
With your support, we can continue educating communities, advocating for better lighting practices, and restoring the breathtaking beauty of the night sky. Currently, our movement has relied mostly on the efforts of local volunteers—regular citizens who also wish for a more sustainable future and generously donate their time and resources to turn this promise into action.
Currently, these actions include:
- The BOLD Initiative, is a statewide program to inspire, educate, and empower conservation-minded Texas businesses and organizations to reduce light pollution and wasted energy and amplify the benefits of better lighting practices through educating those in their sphere of influence.
- Inspecting and certifying International Dark Sky Places around Texas, where the beauty of the night remains pristine.
- The Be a STAR award recognizes nature, neighbor, and night-sky-friendly properties.
- A crowd-sourced Sky Quality Meter program, where volunteers help us track the status of skyglow and light pollution across Texas.
- The definition of a DarkSky Texas Advisory Council to be composed of motivated individuals who are committed to the cause of restoring dark skies in Texas and will provide expertise to facilitate our mission, fulfill strategic objectives, and have an interest in supporting conservation efforts. Funding will determine the start date for this group.
To amplify our impact, we need to expand and bring all these programs statewide. But at this scale, we will need paid staff to support the mission and our hard working volunteers.

Little by little, we will also reduce skyglow around our developed areas, recovering the awe-inspiring night skies that have towered over our lands for millennia.

- Each $250 Asteroid Sponsor can help us print 1,000 outreach cards or provide demo equipment for outreach events.
- Each $500 Comet Sponsor means 1,000 “I Love Texas Night Skies” Stickers.
- A $5,000 Nebula Sponsor would allow us to purchase all-sky-photometry equipment.
- A $25,000 Galaxy Sponsor could provide digital marketing for a year.
- A $50,000 Supernova Sponsor would fund all our statewide programs for one month.
